June 2005, Woodland
Hills, CA -- Seven-time Grammy-winning mixer/engineer
Rafa Sardina opens After Hours Studio in Woodland Hills, CA.
Sardina's eclectic credits include Platinum Certified recoding artists
Macy Gray, Jessy Moss, Dr. Dre, Luis Miguel, Sheryl Crow, Angie
Stone and Alejandro Sanz, Esthero.
Rafa who has worked at some of the world's top studios,
decided to have his own place in order to accommodate a wider range
of client budgets and still be able to do what he loves...mixing,
engineering and producing albums. "Even some of my more established
clients will appreciate the cost saving move, " says the mixer/engineer.
Earlier this
year Sardina acquired few new toys, inlcuding
an Audio Technica microphone. "What I love about these mics
is their performane and versatility. Last year I found myself renting
the mics on almost every session. So, finally I have a pair of my
own," says Sardina. According to the
mixer/engineer who has worked at some of the nicest commercial rooms
(Abbey Road, Cello, Hit Factory, Chalice and Record Plant) he uses
the mics for Drums and strings to vox and everything in between.
"The design
of After Hours evolved from a very basic 'home studio' to one on
par with commercial facilities. Rafa and I worked together to develop
a working studio that would satisfy his Grammy-worthy demands and
were able to maximize the existing spaces to become a dedicated
recording/mixing environment experience," says Clayt Hudson,
the principal architect of COMPOS/IT/E with design credits to include:
O'Henry Studio C, Alejandro Sanz home studio in Miami Beach, FL,
and NRG Recording Services.
"I'm sure certain projects will still take
me to major facilities where I love working," Sardina adds.
